Energetic and Purposeful Exchange of Ideas

Exciting insights and an interesting discussion: The municipal council in Oppenweiler met with company representatives of Murrelektronik, the worldwide automation company headquartered in their home town. They were invited to have a look behind the scenes of the enterprise and discussed questions with company representatives about how to increase the attractiveness of the town and how the competitive ability of Murrelektronik can contribute.

Caroline Hafner-Pinnel, the representative of the owner family, emphasized the excellent cooperation between Murrelektronik and municipality in the past and looks forward to the upcoming joint projects with anticipation, which are to strengthen the location Oppenweiler.

Murrelektronik managing director Jürgen Zeltwanger reported record turnover numbers: Murrelektronik reached a group turnover of 314 million euro in 2017. The company has more than 2,700 employees worldwide. Murrelektronik, which was started in 1975 by Franz Hafner, is represented worldwide with 26 subsidiaries and numerous distribution partners on all continents. The products are manufactured at the company headquarters in Oppenweiler as well as in Stollberg (Saxony, Germany), in Stod (Czech Republic), in Shanghai (China), as well as in Atlanta (Georgia, USA). In Oppenweiler, there are 660 employees, in addition 53 apprentices and dual education students study at this location.

On a tour through the headquarters, the municipal council including the provisional mayor Wilfried Klenk, and also the future mayor Bernhard Bühler, obtained interesting insights into diverse departments at the company. The tour visited the production in white ESD protective clothing. In the logistics center, they saw how a large number of shipments were sent as quickly as possible to customers around the world. In the test center, the municipal council experienced how products are tested by Murrelektronik by undergoing different tests to determine their industrial strength. After the tour, the managing director Stefan Grotzke presented the new office concept, which enables team communication and exchanges with its open structure.

The end of the visit concluded with a discussion where questions surrounding the headquarters’ location, Oppenweiler, were posed. Murrelektronik emphasized that the employees are the reason for the success of the company, which offers excellent training and career possibilities. In order to be able to hire and retain educated employees, good local infrastructure in Oppenweiler and in the region is important. During the discussions, an agreement was reached with the municipal council that Oppenweiler requires well developed train and bus connections, adequate housing, high-performance Internet and attractive recreational offers. In order to strengthen the innovation and future viability of Murrelektronik, it also requires infrastructural measures in the form of building provisions. Murrelektronik and the municipal council agreed to cooperate in partnership on these issues.
